Historical Background and Heritage
Founding and Name

Founded in 1591 by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, Hyderabad was initially established as a center for culture and trade. The city was named after his beloved wife, Hyder Mahal.
